The fire department of Kolhapur provides the following services in case of the following emergencies listed below.

• Free fire extinguishing services within the city limits and a nominal fee outside city limits.
• Rescue operations for persons and animals who are victims of accidents, house collapse, tree fall, drowning and during flood operations.
• Providing Ambulance services and also helping in transferring senior citizens from home to hospital for a nominal fee.

There are six fire stations located at various locations in Kolhapur city.

The Tararani fire station is the main control room of fire fighting department and all fire stations are connected by a telephone hotline. Once any distress message is received from anywhere in the city, fire fighters of the nearby fire station reach within minutes. Recently with the help of the the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) the fire department has installed  wireless communication sets enabled with GPS (global positioning system) on its fire fighting vehicles in a bid to modernize the fire brigade department.
