Rankala Chowpati Area
Tarabai Park Locality
Tarabai park area is one of the posh areas within Kolhapur city. It is known for its lush green surroundings and being calm & peaceful area. This locality is home to many affluent families of Kolhapur and is a well developed residential area with the best amenities for its local residents and even more recently many private companies and brands have made it their prime address, making it a commercially important place. This locality is known to have prominent government offices, schools, engineering colleges, medical colleges, supermarkets and malls, great restaurants and the famous Mahalaxmi temple in its vicinity.
Town Hall Garden Area
Is located in the heart of the city and is known to be one of the coolest places due to the dense greenery around this area covering over 8 acres. This garden also houses the Town Hall Museum which has variety of historic things for history lovers. The statue of Shivaji Maharaj made of marble and a glass house adds to the beauty and splendor of this place. Well trimmed and manicured garden makes it a frequently visited place for locals for recreation, relaxing and reliving stress.
Bindu Chowk Area
A square at the heart of the city, historically it was an important centre during the freedom struggle days where public meeting took place against the British rule. This place is fenced and has a specially built dias at one end and even today major public meetings are held here. But today this chowk is bustling with commercial activities. Recently the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation has spent huge amounts of money on the beautification and restoration of the chowk. Expensive lighting and old statues have been placed on various spots to add to the beauty of this place.
Panchganga Ghat Area
Located on the North West part of the city, it is an extensive ghat on the Panchganga river having both historical and religious importance. One will see a number of temples on the ghat and huge stone structure steps reaching down to the river what is amazing is that some temples are immersed half in the river which add to the amazing beauty and splendour of this place. Generally one will see locals bathing and washing around the ghat, but this beautiful place also adds up to a picnic spot for the locals and visitors. Every year a local fair is organized on the banks of the ghats which attracts locals and tourists from all over Maharashtra. Recently this ghat has been earmarked for Ganpati immersions by the local authorities during the Ganpati festival.
Rajarampuri Locality
Is a busy suburb of Kolhapur city and is also a prominent area which is home to important personalities like politicians, film personalities, businessmen, senior defense officials etc. Rajarampuri area consists of a main road having 14 lanes intersecting at right angles called as “Ghalli” in local language Known as Ghalli Number 1 - 14. Apart from being a residential area it also a commercial hub with the presence of numerous trading stores on the main road trading in garments, jewellery, electronic items and grocery items. With Shivaji university and other educational institutions within the vicinity this area has became a hangout point for many youths visiting the cafes, ice-cream parlours, music stores, restaurants, food stalls and other entertainment spots within the Rajarampuri area.
Station Road Area
This place is always bustling with activity and is a very busy area with the presence of both the locals of Kolhapur carrying on with their daily errands, business and visitors looking around for things of their interest. Visitors must visit this area as it has many things that would be of their interest which could include shopping of specialty items or visiting the local restaurants to enjoy the local cuisines served here. Some of the prominent hotels and budget hotels are located in this area which are in proximity to the railway station and bus stands, both public and private. Overall Station Road gives a wonderful insight of the city of Kolhapur.
Shahupuri Area
Is well known for being a commercial hub as most of the wholesale business of sugar and trading of other goods. Being centrally located Shahupuri has become a prominent area even for residential purpose as it provides the best amenities for the locals residing here like good roads, watersupply, banks, nursing homes etc. and overall it is a well planned area. The railway station and bus stand in close proximity adds to its accessibility for businessmen and visitors.
Mangalwar Peth
Is known to be a peaceful residential locality in the heart of the city with the famous Mahalaxmi temple, City Center, Dhyanchand Hockey Stadium and Sambhaji Nagar ST stand in close proximity and like any other residential area it has all the amenities and infrastructure for the local residents.
